This song was the result of a challenge.
I was asked to use only one instrument. This way, the instrument would be heard clearly at all times, and would need to carry the song on its own. You could call it an exercise in doing more with less.
I suppose I cheated a bit, as this song technically has two guitar parts, but I'm okay with that and was told that it still counts.
It's hard to produce realistic instrument sounds using a MIDI keyboard. Guitar sounds are especially unconvincing, and I've found them easier to layer in the background than to put right in front. In this song, with no other instruments in the mix, there's nothing I can do to hide the oddities of the medium, so I have to level up performance instead.
It may not be possible to create a truly realistic guitar sound this way, but my hope is that practice like this gets me closer to it.
After We'll Be Home Soon, I'm really
vibing on the INTEGRA's FingeredJazz guitar
preset, so I used it again here.
The song itself reimagines an earlier track that never made past the idea stage. Whereas that track reminded me of the ending credits of a long video game, this track feels like a quiet moment at the lake.
Sometimes you need quiet.
