I stumbled across the Kars plugin while researching Linux synth plugins. To my surprise, this plugin was apparently an implementation of Karplus-Strong string synthesis, whose wiki page I found during my LameStation days while I attempted to write a wavetable synthesizer in assembly. We all make mistakes.

I never figured out string synthesis, but I did figure out that Kars came pre-installed on Ubuntu Studio, so I fired it up. Let me tell you: Kars is a twangy beast! It has two controls: one for Volume, and another for More Twang! (labeled Release), which controls how much twang you get.

Finding this twangy component was so delightful that it inspired today's song, a bountiful arrangement of twangs, driven primarily by Kars.

(Get it? Driven by Kars? You get it.)

For the first mix, it ended up not twangy enough, so I found a worse guitar sound, a worse piano sound, and made everything crunchier by lowering the sample rate.

All jokes aside, this song makes me think of the early morning. Groggy and distorted, my alarm is going off, and I'm presented with a choice. I can stay in bed, or I can wake up. Whatever I decide is my own choice, but the world is out there either way, and life is still happening.

It's never been easy for me, but I wake up eventually.
